The Eagles – who have been No. 1 since these rankings began 4 years ago – won their eighth straight IAAM title and enter the season with a hard-to-imagine 155 straight wins. They open their season March 15 at Vero Beach (FL).
2. St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (VA) 0-0 Prev: No. 2 Venerable Saints coach Kathy Jenkins starts her 42nd year as the all-time winningest girls’ HS coach (719 wins) ever. They open March 15 at Academy of the Holy Cross (MD).
3. Darien (CT) 0-0 Prev: No. 3
The Blue Wave are a favorite to win a fifth consecutive Connecticut Large school state championship.
4. Mt. Sinai (NY) 0-0 Prev: No. 4
The Mustangs open March 28 vs. Shoreham-Wading River (N.Y.).
5. Notre Dame Prep (MD) 0-0 Prev: No. 5
The Blazers open March 18 at No. 6 Bishop Ireton (VA).
6. Bishop Ireton (VA) 0-0 Prev: No. 6
The Cardinals open March 13 vs. Bryn Mawr (MD) at home.
7. Garden City (NY) 0-0 Prev: No. 7
The defending Class B state champion Trojans open March 20 at Port Washington (N.Y.).
8. Glenelg (MD) 0-0 Prev: No. 18/strong>
The Gladiators open March 21 vs. Mt. Hebron.
9. Good Counsel (MD) 0-0 Prev: No. 9
The Falcons open March 14 at St. Mary’s (MD).
10. Roland Park (MD) 0-0 Prev: No. 10
The Reds open March 15 with an IAAM contest against Archbishop Spalding.
11. Bridgewater-Raritan (NJ) 0-0 Prev: No. 11
The Panthers should contend with Ridgewood for the Group 4 and Tournament of Champions title.
12. Conestoga (PA) 0-0 Prev: No. 12
The defending PIAA champion Pioneers open March 27 at Notre Dame Academy.
13. Christian Brothers Academy (NY) 0-0 Prev: No. 13/strong>
The defending Class A champion Brothers look to contend for another state crown.
14. Ridgewood (N.J.) 0-0 Prev: No. 14
The Maroons won the Group 4 state title and fell to Summit, 11-10, in overtime in the Tournament of Champions title game; they are a favorite to return.
15. Manhasset (NY) 0-0 Prev: No. 15
The Indians fell to eventual NY Class B state champion Garden City, 9-8, in the Section 8 final and look to contend again for section, LI and state honors.
16. Marriotts Ridge (MD) 0-0 Prev: No. 16
The Mustangs open March 21 at Centennial.
17. Middle Country (NY) 0-0 Prev: No. 17
The Wolverines – led by Heather Leigh Albert honoree Jamie Ortega – will be a Class A contender.
18. Agnes Irwin (PA) 0-0 Prev: No. 18
The Owls open March 16 vs. Germantown Academy (PA).
19. Moorestown (NJ) 0-0 Prev: No. 19
The Quakers also had a lot of injury problems in 2016 and lost their starting goalie to a transfer, but have strong senior and junior classes.
20. Loyola Academy (IL) 0-0 Prev: No. 20
The Ramblers – who have lost one in-state game in the past 8 years – have won eight straight Illinois state titles have eight D1 commits in their senior class. They play a national schedule (six state champions or runner-ups, including No. 2 St. Stephen’s).
