From US Lacrosse

US Lacrosse today announced that 110 teams and organizations have been selected as recipients of 2015 First Stick Program grants. US Lacrosse will partner with these programs over the next two years to provide comprehensive resources, including equipment, US Lacrosse membership and coaches education training, to assist them in becoming self-sustaining programs that operate by US Lacrosse’s national standards and best practices.US-lacrosse1

Boys’ programs received 73 grant awards and girls’ programs were awarded 37 grants. The recipients represent 36 different states. This national US Lacrosse initiative is designed to assist new and developing youth and high school lacrosse teams nationwide.

“We congratulate each of these recipients because there was a very strong applicant pool once again and a very competitive selection process for the First Stick Program,” said Meghan Chaplick, senior manager for programs at US Lacrosse. “We look forward to partnering with these teams and organizations, and supporting them with developmental resources to help them become self-sustaining programs.”

Applicant groups are required to demonstrate a financial need and verify their status as a community based youth team or organization, or an elementary, middle or high school team in order to be considered. One of First Stick’s primary goals is to help break down the barriers to participation by providing free and/or discounted resources to new teams.

The First Stick Program is a US Lacrosse initiative supported by many of the nation’s leading manufacturers, distributors and retailers of lacrosse equipment. To see the full list of supporters, or to read more about the program, please visit uslacrosse.org/FirstStick.

Why did you choose W&M? “William & Mary had the best campus and coaches of any school I’d visited. Their programs in the majors I’m interested in are top-ranked nationally, and it’s close to home which was a huge factor for me. The team culture is very motivated to be successful.”

Outlook for 2016 HS season? “We are working to win our third state championship in a row and win the WCACs. We hope to repeat as a top-ranked team nationally and further build the culture we have created. We graduated a strong class but we still have a lot of talented players.”

Chantilly (VA) 2016 defender/midfielder Christine Peters has made a commitment to play Division III lacrosse at Lynchburg College.

Christina Peters ledger:

Christine Peters

Christine Peters

High School: Chantilly HS, VA

Graduation Year: 2016

Position: Defense/ Middie

College Choice: Lynchburg College

Club Affiliation: Cardinal Girls Lacrosse, Virginia United

Major lacrosse honors, camps and showcases: Cardinal U-15 National Team Captain, All-District Honors

What will you major in/study? Exercise Science- Physical Therapy

Why did you choose this school? “I loved everything about it. It made me feel like home and it is a beautiful campus. Coach (Bruce) Reid struck me a coach who knew what he was talking about, and I love that. The school has a great physical therapy-athletic training program and I knew I wanted to go down that path. It was the perfect school for me in every aspect.”

HS team’s outlook for 2016 season? “We have been on the rise the past couple years and this is our big year. We have the opportunity to really turn heads and show our district what we got. We went from winning one game a season to winning five or six and this year we are looking to double that. Obviously there are some really good teams out there, but for the first time since 2009 we are looking to go into regionals and possibly to the State tournament.”

Thank You: “I want to thank Coach Sobel who has been working with me since my sophomore year to get me where I am today. Without him none of this would have been possible. Also, my parents because they have pushed me to become a better athlete. After I tore my ACL a second time I thought about quitting because of all the injuries. My mom told me no and to push past it and for that I am thankful. I really want to think my friends and teammates. They have been by my side through it all and really pushed me to become a better person and athlete.”

Other schools considered: Lycoming, Shenandoah, Southwestern, Marywood

From Press Release

The Big12 Fall Invitational (www.big12lacrosse.com) inaugural event is five days away. The event committee, participating sponsors and our ALS donation partner Brigance Brigade Foundation (www.brigancebrigade.org) have developed an exceptional lacrosse tournament representing the nations top 2018 and 2019 high school lacrosse talent from a group of the nations top club programs.Big 12

The following clubs will be in attendance:
Dukes LC
Sweetlax
Orange Crush
Annapolis Hawks
Rock Lacrosse
FCA-Baltimore
MadLax
Blue Star
Team Carolina
C2C Atlanta
Iron Horse
TWIST
Loggerheads
Long Island Jesters

Big12 was developed as an ELITE recruiting tournament platform for 2018 and 2019 teams, but as importantly Big12 Fall Lacrosse Invitational combines the current growth and enthusiasm for the game of lacrosse with an important cause, the Battle Against ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Proceeds from the event will go to the Brigance Brigade Foundation to support families with members suffering from ALS.

ALS is a disease that affects only the body, not the mind. ALS affects nerves that surround the spinal cord that control our muscles. Patients ultimately lose the ability to use their muscles, and end up in a wheelchair unable to move, speech is normally affected and ultimately lost…although the body is affected the mind remains intact.

Receiving support like automated wheelchairs with built in respirators, computerized communication tools and other critical support tools can significantly enhance the quality of life of those suffering and for the families and members offering support. Big12 Fall Lacrosse Tournament will raise funds to provide this support.

Big12 Fall Lacrosse Invitational welcomes those in the lacrosse community to attend as spectators at the Big12 event Sunday 11/15 at Blandair Park Columbia, MD. Visit the Big12 website for tournament details. There will be opportunities to watch great high school lacrosse and learn more about how you can support the Brigance Brigade Foundation and those families and members suffering from ALS.

If you are interested is supporting the Battle for ALS you can offer support by visiting the Brigance Brigade Foundation site at the following link:

http://www.brigancebrigade.org/how-you-can-help/donate

Those willing to offer support can write in Big12 Lacrosse to the comment area of the on-line support form and also offer addition comments about your interest in supporting our cause and the Big12 event.
